HeyTaco – The Ultimate Slack Add-on for Team Motivation
Before we start, we’re not talking about a place near the office that sells delicious tacos – Sorry to disappoint. Nope, we’re talking about an awesome new application we’ve added to our work Slack accounts. The HeyTaco! App is free to download on a 60-day free trial and it is easy to incorporate in Slack through channels. (We’ve even decided to create our own dedicated Taco channel that’s how much we like it!).
Tacos have become a big part of our teams everyday work life. It started out as a quirky new feature to have where everyone was giving out tacos but now receiving a taco is now a desired prize.
At Top Frog we tend to give out tacos to team members who we feel deserve praise or appreciation for the tasks or jobs they are doing. Recent examples of tacos given out to team members include:
- Harry and Callum swagging lots of free merch at a Webflow event
- Dani for getting together a client’s website wireframe
- Zoe for organising meeting rooms for clients and generally just being an awesome organisational wizard
How it works
Each member is able to send up to 5 tacos to other members in the team every day. Once a team member reaches 5 they are able to exchange the tacos for rewards. Our individual rewards currently range from a tea/coffee run from a manager of your choice to a delicious sweet treat delivered to your desk or even choosing the team lunch destination.
Recently at Top Frog we’ve invested in team rewards where members of the team can exchange their choice of tacos for a reward for everyone in their team. Currently, we have a reward for a team lunch paid for by the bank of Top Frog – quite a lot of our team members are already investing in the team reward rather than the individual taco prizes.
Ya’know because we’re all team players.
HeyTaco! also allows us to see a live leaderboard that shows the who has received the most tacos. In a fun and light-hearted way we’ve all become really competitive to try and get to the top spot. The leaderboard is no way a representation of the team members ability to work it's just nice to show appreciation for what they have done.
Taco TV has also been another highlight of the application. The TV channel displays recently given tacos in messages along with monthly stats about the tacos given and received.
The benefits we’ve noticed since having this app is that our mood has improved, everyone feels more like a team player and we’ve also noticed that our project performances on tasks have been much stronger. Speaking with other team members they feel much happier and more appreciated since having this new application.
Why not give HeyTaco! app a go on your own Slack channel and that you will like it as much as we do!
